Christopher Gavigan is widely recognized as an environmental health leader, author, speaker and social entrepreneur focused on building purpose-driven brands that have a big social, ecological and philanthropic impact.

In 2012, Christopher founded The Honest Company and is its current Chief Purpose Officer. The Honest Company designs innovative nontoxic products that are effective, safe, beautiful, accessible and responsibly sourced. As a trusted resource committed to providing education and support across its community of members, Honest’s growing portfolio of more than 120 products addresses the ever-growing category needs of baby, personal care, home care/cleaning, vitamins & feeding, gear and more. The Honest Company now has a presence across the U.S. and Canada at Honest.com and in over 7,500 leading retail locations.

Christopher’s commitment and consciousness have been instrumental in spreading awareness about children’s environmental health and providing actionable information to millions of homes worldwide. As CEO of Healthy Child Healthy World, a national nonprofit that empowers and educates parents to protect children from toxic risks, he advocated for legislative reforms of the domestic chemical regulatory system, championing new standards and safe options for families in the consumer marketplace.

Christopher translated his passion into a best-selling book, Healthy Child Healthy World: Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home, with leading contributions from Dr. Philip Landrigan, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, First Lady Michelle Obama, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sheryl Crow, Dr. Alan Greene and Dr. Harvey Karp. He has authored numerous pieces on environmental health, sustainability and the non-toxic marketplace for national publications, including People magazine, Huffington Post, The New York Times, USA Today, CNN, Fast Company, Elle, In Style, Parenting, Cookie, TreeHugger, Discovery, and Fit Pregnancy. He has been featured as a speaker and expert at national conferences, including Sustainable Brands, GreenBiz, AdWeek, LOHAS and Expo West, and has been interviewed on numerous radio and television programs.

Christopher sits on the Board of Directors of Mount Sinai Hospital’s Children Environmental Health Center and is a Chief Advisor to the Green Product Innovation Institute. He is also on the Advisory Boards of SAIL Venture Partners and UCLA’s Environmental Health Sciences Department. Christopher was awarded EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2015, WebMD’s “Health Hero Award for 2010,” and Elle magazine’s “Green Award” in 2007.

Raised in New York and Connecticut, Christopher graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a double major in environmental science, and extensive master’s degree training in psychology from UCLA. Christopher lives in Santa Monica with wife and actress Jessica Capshaw and their four children, Luke, Eve, Poppy and Josephine.
